Mike Chamberlin

Jazz Saxophonist

Dr. Michael Chamberlin holds degrees from the University of Maryland (DMA), the University of North Texas (MM), and Bowling Green State University (BA). He is a versatile musician, accomplished in a variety of musical settings including symphonic music and jazz. A committed educator and highly sought after clinician, he has presented his ideas to musicians throughout the world. Dr. Chamberlin presented a jazz clinic on bebop scales at the 2016 Biennial National Conference of the North American Saxophone Alliance at Texas Tech University, and an earlier version of that project at the 2015 World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France. He joined the United States Army Band program in 2013 and was most recently stationed in Sembach, Germany as a member of the United States Army Europe Band and Chorus. In this role, he performs regularly with the USAREUR Standard Jazz Combo, recently voted MusicPerformance Team of the Year within the Army Music field. 

In 2014, while stationed with the Eighth Army Band in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Chamberlin presented a lecture on American jazz history at the United States Embassy American Center in conjunction with Jazz Appreciation Month. He also presented a research project and performance titled Exploring the Programmatic Elements of William Bolcom’s Lilith at the 2012 NASA Biennial National Conference. Dr. Chamberlin has an extensive background performing in small groups and jazz combos, including experience as a show band musician for Carnival Cruise Lines. Most notably, his instructors include John Sampen, Gunnar Mossblad, Jay Miglia, Jim Riggs, Chris McGuire, Dale Underwood, Al Regni, Connie Frigo, and Chris Vadala. He currently lives in Washington, DC with his wife Victoria.
